Sanjay’s Saawariya also marked the debut of Anil Kapoor’s daughter, Sonam Kapoor. The film is based on the 1848 short story White Nights by Fyodor Dostoevsky. It also had cameos from Rani Mukerji and Salman Khan.

On Neha Dhupia’s podcast No Filter Neha in 2016, Ranbir said: “He (Bhansali) was a hard task master and I knelt down on the set, he hit me… after a point it got so heavy and I felt so tortured that I had to stop the movie at some point… I think it was about 10 or 11 months into my job and I’m like ‘Listen, I can’t do this, it’s hitting me’ I think I’m too I’m sensitive and emotional and he got to know me so well and he just kept getting stuck in that… he got too much, went crazy as far as I’m concerned.”

“That said, I think all my performances I do in the cinema all come from that experience, from him… in that sense he was a real teacher… he taught me all about acting and emotions and things like that…” Ranbir added.

Ranbir will be seen next in Shamshera. Sanjay Dutt and Vaani Kapoor will also star in the film. Shamshera, produced by Aditya Chopra, will be released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu on July 22. Recently, Ranbir and actor Shraddha Kapoor were in Spain filming for a film by Luv Ranjan. Ranbir also has Brahmastra in the pipeline. The film also stars Alia Bhatt, Amitabh Bachchan and Mouni Roy. It will hit theaters on September 9, 2022.
