friends is a sitcom that has made the lives of several fans happy and the bond they formed with the show’s protagonist was special. Matthew Perry who became famous for playing Chandler Bing on the show, struggled with addiction while on the sitcom. The actor has been open about his addiction to prescription painkillers after a 1997 jet ski accident. During an interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2004, along with the show’s cast, Perry spoke about making the decision to seek help for his addiction after realizing the “Matthew Perry plan was bad.”

Speaking about the courage it took to do the same, the actor revealed how he made the decision to pull himself together, saying: “What saved me was finally getting a little clarity in my life and realizing that this was it. “If I stay. If I live my life this way, there will be no life. So in the end I think the key word is ‘surrender’.” He added: “And you realize you need help, so eventually you ask for it. And you realize the Matthew Perry plan is worthless… For anyone struggling out there, you have to realize it’s time.” to do something about it.’

When asked if it was hard to watch a friend and co-star struggle, David Schwimmer who played the famous Ross Geller on Friends admitted it was “very hard” watching Matthew deal with addiction. Perry’s protracted struggle to get sober involved drug addiction twice during his time on Friends, first in 1997 to treat his addiction to prescription pills. He then returned in 2001 to deal with Vicodin, methadone, amphetamines, and alcohol addictions.
