Vir Das shared a post for budding fashion designers on Instagram. Vir left a note urging people “not from the industry” to style him for his next stand-up show. This isn’t the first time Vir has pledged to give new designers such an opportunity. Last year, Vir selected a 4th year fashion student over well-known designers to create his Emmy Awards outfit. Vir shared a note and captioned it: “Calling budding designers! Send us your stuff/folio etc. Here we go again.” Vir’s note reads: “Right. I’m filming a comedy special. Need an outfit. So this is where we do what we do and give new designers opportunities. Rules: You must be a student or all-new. You can’t be established or out.” “the industry” and if you are, recommend a friend who could use this recording. To be clear, the more enthusiast you are, the less interest.”
The actor and stand-up comedy continued, writing, “Send us an email to firstname.lastname@example.org and if we select you, we’ll pay you to make the outfit, credit you for the special credits, and a lot of people will see your creation Vibes: Not too formal. Indian fusion. Something I can wear with kicks. Move and breathe too. Black and brown are my friends. Nothing with too much swag or trying too hard. Should be simple. Go!”
A fan praised him and said: “I love this!!! Ugh can’t wait to see the comment section full of inspiring new designers!” Another said: “Ladka heera hai apna (our guy Vir is like a diamond).” One wrote: “This is so thoughtful of you! What a beautiful way to lift others up. @virdas you deserve all the success and joy.” Making fun of filmmaker Karan Johar, who often has trends on Twitter for promoting celeb kids as well as his style choices, one person quipped, “Karan Johar doesn’t like this post.”
Besides doing stand up, Vir starred in several movies like Namastey London, Mumbai Salsa, Love Aaj Kal, Go Goa Gone. He also starred in the dark Netflix comedy Hasmukh, which came out last year.
