Days after actor Vijay Deverakonda commented ‘kaun rookge dekh lenge (who quits, we’ll see)’ about the boycott trend on his film Liger, executive director of Gaiety Galaxy and Maratha Mandir Cinema Manoj Desai criticized him. In a new interview, Manoj called him “arrogant” and asked why he had to show “cleverness”. He also cited examples of how Aamir Khan’s latest films, Taapsee Pannu and Akshay Kumar crashed at the box office. Taapsee Pannu’s Dobaaraa gathered around 2.5 crore in its opening weekend. The film was released in theaters on August 19. Aamir Khan’s film Laal Singh Chaddha managed only 4.65 crore in India. Akshay Kumar’s movie Raksha Bandhan made 4 crore in the same period. Both films hit theaters on August 11.

Speaking to Filmi Fever, Manoj said: “Mr Vijay, you have become arrogant: ‘Watch the film or if you don’t want to, don’t watch’. If the audience does not want to watch, what has become of Taapsee Pannu? What’s going on Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar’s Raksha Bandhan? You also want your… Why don’t you work in OTT? Work in good serials on Tamil, Telugu and OTT platforms and get out of the theater. ‘Boycott our movie’, why are you showing cleverness? People don’t even watch OTT. Such behavior on your part causes difficulties in pre-booking our theaters. Mr. Vijay, you are an anaconda, not ‘Konda Konda’. You talk like an anaconda. “Vinaash bare vipareet buddhi (when the time of destruction approaches, the mind stops working), and you do.”

He also added: “Why are you saying all this nonsense? Taapsee did the same and look at her situation. Now you do it? Do you feel good about it?… I had high hopes for the movie, but such statements have hard consequences during the interview… Don’t go to hashtags, you’ll only regret it in the end.”

Earlier this week, Vijay said of Liger, as quoted by news agency ANI: “We put our hearts into making this film. And I believe I am right. I feel there is no room for fear, while I am had , I was not afraid, and now that I have achieved something, I think that even now there need be no more fear Maa ka aashirwaad hai, Logon ka pyaar hai, Bhagwaan ka hath hai, andar aag hai, Kaun rookge dekh lenge (we have mother’s blessings, people’s love, God’s support, a fire in us, we’ll see who will stop us)!”

Liger marks Vijay’s debut in Hindi cinema. The sports drama can also be seen Ananya Panday in her first multilingual film. Directed by Puri Jagannadh, earned Liger’s Tamil and Telugu versions 24.5 crore gross worldwide on first day of release. It released in theaters in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam.
