Actor and producer Vijay Babu, who has been accused of sexual assault by an actor in Kochi, was arrested Monday after appearing before Ernakulam police in connection with the case. On June 22, he was released on bail by the Kerala High Court. According to reports, he was released on bail but will have to work with the team investigating the case. According to reports, the team set up to investigate Babu was allowed in the investigation to interrogate him from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to July 3. The actor was accused of sexual assault by a female actor earlier this year.
In her complaint, the victim alleged that she was attacked several times by the actor in a flat in Kochi. The complainant said Vijay sexually assaulted her under the pretense of offering roles in films. Ernakulam South Police Department registered a case against Vijay based on the woman’s complaint, which was received on April 22. Vijay is said to have fled to Dubai around the same time the case was registered in his name and returned earlier this month
Vijay was also accused of disclosing the survivor’s name when he went live on his Facebook account and revealed the actor’s identity. Vijay is currently out on bail. According to a report from Onmanorama, he said he was the real victim and would file a defamation case. He also said he was willing to face the consequences after disclosing the complainant’s name. The report added that Vijay said he will not let the complainant escape easily.
Following the allegations, Vijay was asked to resign from the executive committee of AMMA – The Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes. AMMA spokesman Edavela Babu said at a recent press conference that they will take action against Vijay Babu in accordance with the court order.
Earlier in June, it was reported that Vijay would appear before the investigators if requested. He has also reportedly been asked not to contact the complainant in any way, or make any claims related to her or the family. He will also have to ask permission to leave the state.
