Actor Mickey Rourke launched a scathing criticism of Tom Cruise in a recent interview. Mickey is an Oscar-nominated actor and has worked in several successful films over the years, including Iron Man 2, The Expendables and Immortals. The 69-year-old saw a resurgence in his career in the late 2000s and in an interview discussed older actors who headline successful films.

In an interview on Piers Morgan Uncensored, Mickey was asked by the host what he thought of 60-year-old Tom in Top Gun: Maverick. “That means no shit to me. The guy has been doing the same effing part for 35 years. I have no respect for that,” Mickey replied.

The actor elaborated on his response, adding: “I don’t care about money and power. I care when I see the work of Al Pacino and the early work of Chris Walken and De Niro and the work of Richard Harris and see the work of Ray Winstone. That’s the kind of actor I want to be. Monty Clift and Brando used to be.” When asked if he didn’t think Tom was a good actor, Mickey replied, “I don’t think he’s relevant, in my world.”

Tom returned to his iconic role of Navy aviator Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell in the film, a sequel to his 1986 hit Top Gun. In addition, he has also headlined six films in the Mission Impossible franchise, one of the most successful series in movie history. The seventh and eighth parts of the series will appear in 2023 and 2024, respectively. Mickey was last seen in the 2021 film Man of God.
