Christian Bale makes its Marvel Cinematic Universe debut with the upcoming movie Thor: Love and Thunder. The actor plays the latest miracle villain Gorr the God Butcher and fans have praised his terrifying appearance. But the actor recently revealed that if he and director Taika Waititi had had their way, the film would have featured a series of Gorr dances to Kate Bush songs. At the recent worldwide press conference for Thor: Love and Thunder on Friday, Christian and Taika were joined by movie stars Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson and Natalie Portman, as well as Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. During the press conference, which the Hindustan Times attended, Christian was asked if he mentioned a “cut” dance sequence from the film and the actor replied, “Not cut, planned.”
He explained that he discussed the dance sequences with Taika, as they are both fans of English musician Kate Bush. “(It was) talk, maybe just whispers, between Taika and me. “Hey, could we ever find half a day to do a Gorr dance?” We are both admirers of Kate Bush and wondered how bizarre (it would be).”
When Tessa Thompson intervened to ask if the dance was ever filmed, Christian replied, “Actually, it stayed in our heads…I think we realized this was probably never going to end in (the final version).” Interestingly enough, Kate Bush’s music has seen a resurgence of late, as one of her songs – Running Up The Hill – was recently featured on Netflix’s Stranger Things. The newfound focus has seen the song re-enter the international charts 37 years after its initial release.
Thor: Love and Thunder is the fourth solo Thor adventure in the MCU and sees Chris Hemsworth reprise his iconic role. The film also brings back Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, who now has Thor’s powers. Together, they face a new threat in Gorr, a being determined to kill all the gods, which isn’t exactly good news for the God of Thunder. The film will be released in India on July 7.
