Critics’ first reactions to Russo Brothers’ upcoming Netflix movie the gray man are out and they are universally positive. Critics have praised the chemistry between the two leads–Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling. Indian star Dhanush’s “sharp and brutal” scenes have also been noted. The film marks Dhanush’s Hollywood debut. The Gray Man is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, best known for their blockbuster Marvel films. With a reported budget of $200 million, it is the most expensive Netflix movie ever. Apart from Ryan, Chris and Dhanushalso starring Ana de Armas, Jessica Henwick, Wagner Moura and Rege-Jean Page.

While the film will hit theaters on July 15 for a limited time, followed by its Netflix release on July 22, the first reactions from select critics are here. and Anna. Critic Jana N Nagase praised the action sequences and the chemistry between Ryan and Chris. “#AnaDeArmas is great and has the action scenes sharp. Ryan Gosling & @chrisevans are amazing together & perfect fight scenes,” she tweeted. Next Best Picture’s Matt Neglia wrote that while the film “isn’t as impressive as the Mission: Impossible or John Wick movies,” it’s “still a good chunk of popcorn entertainment.”

Even Dhanush, who has a cameo in the film, received praise from certain critics. Courtney Howard tweeted: “Ryan Gosling & @ChrisEvans share an excellent response (and sleazebag of facial hair!). Ana de Armas is cool & beautiful. Dhanush’s scenes are brutal and sharp.”

Based on the 2009 novel of the same name by Mark Greaney, The Gray Man follows CIA mercenary Court Gentry (Ryan) who is hunted by his psychopathic former colleague Lloyd Hansen (Chris) and several international hitmen. The film has been billed as the first in a franchise. The Russos have hinted that Dhanush’s character could also get its own spin-off.
