A promotional event organized for Tovino Thomasstarrer Malayalam film Thallumaala at a shopping mall in Kochi was canceled after a huge crowd flooded the venue. Prior to the film’s release, videos and photos of the crowded venue made the rounds on social media. Responding to the scene from the mall, Tovino said in a video that he has never seen such a crowd in his life.
The film, directed by Khalid Rahman, hit theaters on Friday. The team had planned a huge pre-release promotional event at the HiLite shopping center in Kochi on Thursday night.
Several users posted videos and photos of the location being overrun with people. After the event was cancelled, Tovino posted a video to his Instagram page expressing his utter disbelief at the crowd’s turnout.
Commenting on the cancellation of the event, Tovino said: “We saw a large crowd at the entrance to the mall. However, we never expected that they would all make it to the mall. I never expected such a large turnout. I don’t know if this is good or bad news. Unfortunately we were unable to run the promotional event. We were unable to run the event due to the crowd. Even on stage there were a lot of people. I’ve never seen such a crowd in my life.”
The action comedy film also stars Kalyani Priyadarshan, Shine Tom Chacko and Chemban Vinod Jose. It’s a story about Tovino’s character who becomes an infamous internet celebrity when an argument breaks out with a vlogger at his own wedding.
Recently featured in superhero film Minnal Murali, Tovino will next be seen in Adrishya Jalakangal, which marks his reunion with co-star Nimisha Sajayan after four years. The film is directed by Biju Kumar Damodaran. Tovino and Nimisha previously worked together in the crime thriller Oru Kuprasidha Payyan.
