Rashtra Kavach Om, starring Aditya Roy Kapura and Sanjana Sanghi, failed to impress critics or moviegoers. The film hit theaters Friday amid negative reviews, with a low opening collection at the ticket counters. The Collected Movie 1.51 crore on the first day of release. Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the opening collection of the film on Twitter. He wrote: “#RashtraKavachOm is boring on day 1…National chains [#PVR, #INOX, #Cinepolis] find limited patronage, but mass belt registers better occupation [due to action]…Must cover lost ground on days 2 and 3…Friday 1.51 cr. #Indian affairs.”
Directed by Kapil Verma, the film also has stars Jackie Shroff, Prachee Shah Paandya, Prakash Raj, Ashutosh Rana, Bijou Thaangjam and Elnaaz Norouzi in a dance number. It was previously called Om: The Battle Within.
The Hindustan Times review of the film said it hits “new heights of absurdity” and read: “Rashtra Kavach Om proves not only the genre it claims to belong to, but also the audience that Aditya Roy Kapur wants to see on the film. screen doing something substantial rather than just making a fist and letting us feel the impact in slo-mo.”
Aditya made his debut with the 2013 film Aashiqui 2 and has appeared in films such as Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Fitoor, Ok Jaanu and Ludo. The actor said he was approached for Rashtra Kavach Om shortly after the trailer for his 2020 movie Malang came out.
“Kapil saw me in that trailer where I was full. He sensed that was my husband and they called me for Om. It’s an action movie and I’m a huge action fanatic, as I grew up as an action fanatic. I’ve seen all the movies from action stars like Sylvester Stallone, Jackie Chan and (Jean-Claude) Van Damme,” he told PTI in an interview.
