Aditya Roy Kapura and Sanjana Sanghi starrer Rashtra Kavach Om didn’t ring the cash registers. The action movie got off to a very slow start on opening day and hasn’t shown much growth so far. According to reports, the film just earned 1.5 crore on Sunday, with total collections just over in the first weekend 4 million. Rashtra Kavach Om is directed by Kapil Verma and also features Jackie Shroff, Ashutosh Rana, Prakash Raj, and Prachee Shah in pivotal roles. The film was previously called Om: The Battle Within, but the title was changed weeks before release.
A report from BoxOfficeIndia.com stated: “Rashtra Kavach Om collected a very low net amount of 4 crore in the first weekend. Business was better in the single screens of UP and Bihar and these managed to jump even on Sunday. There is no hope for the movie post of the weekend, because whatever songs have come, they’ve come in the genre and the genre has been frontloaded.”
However, the report added that since bigger movies with more affordable stars are also unable to get the 15 crore in the first weekend, these numbers can be considered ‘par for the course’. “The collections are bad, but when much bigger starred movies get weekends below 15 crore net, this movie that gets 4 crore net is the most normal thing in the world,” the report said. For example Ajay Devgn’s lane 34 earned 13.4 crore in the first weekend while Shahid Kapoor’s Jersey did business 12.3 crore in the first three days.
Rashtra Kavach Om was also panned by critics for its absurd storyline and wooden acting. The Hindustan Times review of the film read: “Rashtra Kavach Om not only does a disservice to the genre it claims to belong to, but also to the audience that wants to see Aditya Roy Kapur on the big screen doing something substantial rather than just a punch and let us feel the impact in slo-mo.”
