Actor Ranbir Kapoor has received praise for Sanjay Dutt, Shah Rukh Khan and Ranveer Singh, actors who have attempted negative roles in films. In a new video shared by Yash Raj Films on Twitter, Ranbir spoke about how villains in Hindi cinema have been loved and remembered as much as the ‘hero’ of the film over the years. He also praised the ‘villains’ in Sholay, Mr India and Agneepath. (Read also | Ranbir Kapoor says his childhood dream of being a hero is incomplete†
In a new video, Ranbir said: “They say that in a fight between good and evil, good always wins.” Ranbir then gave a spin on Shah Rukh’s line of Baazigar, “Jo her k bhi logo ka dil jeeth le use Baazigar nahi villain kehte hai (The one who wins heart even after losing is not the gambler but the villain).”
The video featured Ranbir talking about villains and how in several films the villain is celebrated more than the ‘hero’. In the clip entitled ‘RK Tapes Episode 3 The Villain’, Ranbir talked about Gabbar Singh becoming more famous than Jai and Veeru in Sholay, how Mogambo took the ‘spotlight’ in Mr India and dominated Kancha Cheena with his role in Agneepath.
The clip then showed a series of photos of young Ranbir with his friends and late father Rishi Kapoor† He said, “The cinematic Ranbir in his youth wanted to become a hero. But there was a part that longed to become a villain.”
Ranbir spoke of actors taking on negative roles, “Shah Rukh said KKK…Kiran and registered his name in one of the most iconic roles as a villain. All the villains in the Dhoom franchise stunned everyone, it’s unbelievable. in Padmaavat, Ranveer Singh made Alauddin Khilji so terrifying, that even after the movie ends, the character stays with you.”
“And what can I say about Sanjay Dutt? I think he’s one of the best villains of recent times. The ultimate khalnayak (antagonist), coming back as a villain in Shamshera. Part of me is jealous, I would have loved of playing that role Mera sapna raha hai ki main bhi negative role karun aur log apne bacchon se kahe ki ‘soy beta warna Ranbir ajayega’ (My dream is to play negative role and then people scare their kids with my name).”
The video ended with Ranbir saying, “I’m looking forward to the bad guys we’ve yet to see, the actor who would scare us and the villains who will redefine evil.” The video was shared with the caption: “All about villains. Watch #RanbirKapoor talk about his favorite villains in RK Tapes – Episode 3 – The Villain. Shamshera will be released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. Celebrate #Shamshera with #YRF50 in only a theater near you.”
Ranbir will be featured in next shamshera, where he will play his first double role. The film is slated for July 22. Helped by Karan Malhotra, Shamshera, which is set in the fictional city of Kaza, plays Ranbir in the title role who became a leader to save his tribe. Sanjay Dutt plays the antagonist, Daroga Shudh Singh. Vaani Kapoor is also a part of the film.
