Akshay Kumar’s Raksha Bandhan has seen a nominal jump of 25 percent on Sunday as early estimates say the film has collected between Rs 7.40 crore and 8.10 crore. The four-day total of Raksha Bandhan stands in the range of Rs 28 crore which is nothing but a low result especially for a movie starring a Khiladi like Akshay Kumar. During the four days, UP and Bihar are the centers that have in fact surpassed for Raksha Bandhan.

Surprisingly, Gujarat has not fully supported this family drama. Over the weekend, the contribution of National Multiplex chains – PVR, Inox and Cinepolis – was about 48 percent, while the non-national chains and single screens contributed another 52 percent. Raksha Bandhan should have clocked a four-day total of at least Rs 40 crore as that would have laid the platform for clocking the half-century number by Independence Day and then starting the journey towards the successful brand by reaching a century.

Day Wise Box Office Collection:

Thursday: Rs 8.00 crore (holiday)

Friday: Rs 6.25 crore (-23%)

Saturday: Rs 6.10 crore (-2%)

Sunday: Rs 7.70 crore (+27%)

Total: Rs 28 crore (approx)

The numbers are nearly 40 percent lower than even conservative expectations and now the Aanand L Rai executive is in danger of being a major flop for stakeholders. Monday the collections will decline and the five-day extended weekend collection of Raksha Bandhan will be about Rs 35 crore. As for the lifetime business, Raksha Bandhan will target numbers around Rs 60 crore, which is proving to be another post-pandemic failure of the Hindi film industry.

The numbers overseas are negligible, although we are still waiting for an actual figure from the officials. It is estimated to finish at less than $2 million in the international belts, though Raksha Bandhan as a film has never fit this audience segment. Both the August 11 releases, Raksha Bandhan and Laal Singh Chaddha, proved to be a major disappointment to the Hindi film industry, although the latter is a bigger shock and a bigger flop as it arrived with greater expectations and a higher budget.
