Celebrities have spoken out against the US Supreme Court’s decision to bring down Roe v Wade, which protected women’s reproductive rights. The ruling will lead to abortion being banned in several states. While Priyanka Chopra didn’t immediately respond to the news, she reposted former first lady Michelle Obama’s post to her Instagram story.

In her Instagram stories, Priyanka expressed her sadness at the recent decision of the US Supreme Court. Re-sharing a heartbreaking statement written by Michelle ObamaChopra also posted another story with a political cartoon comparing gun rights in America to abortion rights. When Roe v Wade was taken down after nearly 50 years since it became one of the most significant victories for women’s rights, its current decline has been met with a lot of backlash.

Michelle Obama wrote in her statement how the decision left her “heartbroken”, writing: “So yes, I am heartbroken – for the teenage girl, full of zest for life and promise, who will not be able to finish school or the the life she wants because her state dictates her reproductive decisions; for the mother of an unviable pregnancy who is now forced to complete that pregnancy; for the parents who see their child’s future evaporating before their eyes; for the health professionals who cannot help them any longer without risking jail time.”

Several celebrities reacted to the shocking statement on social media, including: Hailey Bieber who wrote that she was “speechless” when she shared a headline about the decision. She went on to write: “What an extreme loss and disappointment. This is really very scary.”
