Kubbra Sait recalled the time she had an abortion after getting pregnant after a one-night stand. The incident happened in 2013, while she was on vacation in Andaman.
Actor Kubbra Sait’s debut work as an author entitled Open Book was released on June 27. The book covers the early days of the actors growing up in Bengaluru, including her rendezvous with social anxiety to body shaming, as well as gaining artistic success. In the book, she wrote about her trip to Andamans in 2013 when she was 30. She wrote that after a diving session she went for a drink and later became physically intimate with a friend. A few days later she took her pregnancy test which was positive.
Now, in an interaction with Times Now, she shared what happened after she found out she was pregnant. She said: “A week later I decided to terminate the pregnancy. I wasn’t ready. It just wasn’t the way I imagined my life or my journey. I guess I wasn’t ready. I wasn’t ready because I wasn’t ready as a person. I don’t think I’m ready yet. I don’t understand this pressure around women to get married at 23 and have kids by the time they’re 30. It’s like a fixed, invisible rulebook. I knew I wasn’t ready.” She added that she “didn’t regret it.”
She added: “Of course I felt like a terrible person. A horrible person because of the choice I made. But my bad feeling didn’t stem from how I felt, but rather how other people would perceive it. My choice was about me. Sometimes it can be difficult to help yourself. But it’s okay. You have to do it.”
Born in Bangalore, Kubbra made her acting debut with Salman Khan and Asin Thottumkal’s Ready, in which she had a very small part. She later appeared in films such as Sultan, Ready, Jawaani Jaaneman, Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare and City Of Life. Her breakthrough role was in the Netflix series Sacred Games. She was last seen in the Apple TV+ series Foundation.
