Directorate of Enforcement (ED) interviewed actor Jacqueline Fernandez on Monday in connection with a money laundering case involving imprisoned con man Sukesh Chandrasekhar, according to reports. The actor was also previously investigated in the case. According to reports, Jacqueline knew Sukesh well and according to some stories, she was in a relationship with him. However, the actor has kept quiet about the same. Also read: Jacqueline Fernandez cleared by court to fly to Abu Dhabi to attend IIFA awards

On Monday, Jacqueline appeared at ED headquarters, following a federal agency’s call to include her statement in the case. In April, the agency had assets worth 7.27 crore from the actor in the case registered under the Money Laundering Prevention Act (PMLA), 2002.

ED’s current case is based on an FIR filed by the Delhi Police’s Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) against the alleged con man, who reached out to people by making fake phone calls to defraud them. The numbers on their phones appeared to belong to government officials, and he claimed to be a government official who wanted to help people at a price. Both Sukesh and his wife, actor Leena Maria Paul, were arrested by Delhi police in September 2021 for their alleged roles in a scam.

During the investigation, Sukesh Chandrasekhar told officers he had given several gifts worth 5.71 crore to Jacqueline, many of which came from the proceeds of criminal activity, including extortion. The ED said that in addition to these gifts, Sukesh had also given money worth $172,913 and Aus $26,740 to close relatives of Jacqueline.

The agency said Sukesh Chandrasekhar also delivered 15 lakhs in cash to a screenwriter on behalf of Jacqueline as an advance towards writing a script for her web series. He also claimed to have been in a relationship with the actor.

Jacqueline has remained largely silent on the matter. However, she responded to the allegations when photos of her and Sukesh appeared online in January. She had written on Instagram: “I am going through a rough time at the moment but I am sure my friends and fans will see me through it. It is with this confidence that I would ask my media friends not to distribute images of a nature that invade my privacy and personal space.”

Jacqueline is not the only person from Bollywood who has been investigated or questioned in this case. Earlier this year, actor Nora Fatehi was also interrogated by the ED in connection with the same case.
