Kate Winslet’s watch as Ronal was exclusively revealed on the cover of the Avatar special edition of Empire magazine. The actor looks fierce with sharp fangs and big eyes as she yells at someone with anger written big on her forehead. She looks slightly different from Avatar’s Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) with her unblemished open splayed loosely across her back, in contrast to Neytiri’s braided look.
Empireonline.com reports that Ronal leads the Metkayina tribe, along with Cliff Curtis’ Tonovari, who lives in the shallows of Pandora’s vast oceans and has a major role in the upcoming movie. Speaking of her character, Kate told the magazine in an interview: “She is very loyal and a fearless leader. She is strong. A warrior. Even in the face of great danger, and with an unborn baby on board, she still joins in. always with her people and fight for what is most dear to her, her family and their home.”
Kate, who has had a water connection with James Cameron since their 1997 magnum opus Titanic, has a very different role in Avatar that didn’t require her to just float, but go underwater. She said the longest she stayed underwater was “seven minutes and 14 seconds” and added, “the most amazing thing for me as a middle-aged woman was learning something that was not only new, but superhuman.”
Avatar The Way of Water follows the events of the 2009 film Avatar and is expected to mark the return of Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), Neytiri (Zoe Saldana), Colonel Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang), and Dr. Grace Augustine (Sigourney Weaver).
