Anurag Kashyap is currently waiting for the release of its highly anticipated director, Dobaaraa. Starring Taapsee Pannu and Pavail Gulati, the film revolves around Taapsee’s quest to rescue a young boy, who communicates with her through a television set. The mystery drama is an official remake of the 2018 Spanish film Mirage and is slated for a theatrical release on August 19, 2022. The director is promoting his upcoming film and recently spoke about the failure of Ranbir Kapoor actor Shamshera at the box office.

Speaking to Galatta Plus, Anurag said that in Bollywood, cinema is largely controlled by the people and also by that second generation that grew up in test rooms. “They haven’t lived life so the references are based on cinema. So what’s not on screen can’t be cinema to them. The biggest problem with YRF is the tasting room effect. You take a story and you want to make a Pirates of the Caribbean out so it becomes Thugs of Hindostan You take a story and you want to make it Mad Max: Fury Road it becomes shamshera. The same Shamshera would have worked two to three years ago, at least much more than how it worked. Now people are exposed to OTT,” he said.

Furthermore, Anurag added that Aditya Chopra, head of Yash Raj Films, should not dictate to filmmakers what to do and that he should rather change his directing methods. “Sit in your office, hire good people if you trust them, and let them make their movie. That’s the mistake he makes. He doesn’t let them be,” Anurag said. The filmmaker also praised Karan Johar for empowering the people he’s hired to make movies their own way.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the makers of Dobaaraa held a special display which was attended by Kubbra Sait, Rakul Preet Singh, Jacky Bhagnani, Alaya F, Anushka Ranjan, Akansha Ranjan and others.
