Akshay began his career in 1991 with Saugandh, but his first commercial success came with the action thriller Khiladi (1992), which led to the Khiladi film series. He has starred in nearly 100 films in his more than three-decade long career. He has also won several awards, including a National Film Award. He was last seen in the historical drama Samrat Prithviraj, which was released in theaters on June 3. The film, directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi, also features Manushi Chillar, Sanjay Dutt, Sonu Sood, Manav Vij, Ashutosh Rana and Sakshi Tanwar.

According to PTI news agency, Akshay said he is trying to do his part through cinema. “I am very happy with making films… As an actor I do everything possible to address social issues. I have produced 150 films, the film closest to my heart is Raksha Bandhan. I produce commercial films, sometimes with social issues. I produce three to four films a year,” said Akshay, the main guest of the event. According to the report, Aanand L Rai’s directing Raksha Bandhan is his last work.

This is not the first time Akshay has responded to a question about membership in politics. On the sidelines of an event in Delhi in 2019, Akshay had replied: “Never, I want to be happy. I love movies and I contribute to my country with my films. This is my job.”

Akshay has several films in the pipeline, including Raksha Bandhan, which will hit theaters on August 11. The film also features Bhumi Pednekar, Sadia Khateeb, Sahejmeen Kaur, Deepika Khanna and Smrithi Srikanth. He also has Raj Mehta’s Selfiee with Nushrratt Bharuccha and Diana Penty in the pipeline. Akshay will also be seen in Abhishek Sharma’s Ram Setu with Jacqueline Fernandez and Nushrratt.
