However, this is not the first time Akshay has been candid about his citizenship. earlier on Coffee With Karan 7, Karan Johar asked the actor if he’s being trolled, and Akshay promptly replied that he doesn’t go online much. “At the most they write about Canada. I don’t care,” he added. When Karan said, “The trolls call you Canada Kumar,” Akshay replied, “Yeah, Canada Kumar, okay, call me that.” In a recent interview, Akshay claimed he was a Indian is who will always be.

Speaking to Lallantop, Akshay said: “A few years ago my films didn’t work. Nearly 14-15 films hadn’t worked, so I thought I should probably go and work somewhere else and work there.” He revealed that it was one of his friends who lived in Canada and suggested he move in. “A lot of people move there for work, but they’re still Indians. So I also thought that if fate doesn’t support me here, I’ll I went there, applied for it (citizenship) and got it,” Akshay added.

But he changed his mind after finding success again in India. “I have a passport. What is a passport? It is a document used to travel from one country to another. Look, I’m an Indian, I pay all my taxes and pay them here. I have the choice to pay it there too, but I pay them in my country. I work in my country. A lot of people say things and they are allowed to. I would just like to say to them that I am an Indian, and I will always be an Indian,” he further revealed.

Although Akshay’s citizenship has always been a topic of discussion among people, the actor had previously assured that he had applied for an Indian passport. Speaking at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit 2019, he said, “I have now applied for the passport. I’m an Indian and it pains me to be asked to prove it every time.” His latest outing is filmmaker Aanand L Rai’s Raksha Bandhan.
