Zayn Marie Khan, niece of actor Aamir Khancommented on the boycott campaign against his latest film Laal Singh Chaddha and urged the public to watch it. Zayn supported Aamir and shared a video on Instagram. Aamir’s daughter, Ira Khan, re-shared the video on her Instagram. Prior to the film’s release, some of the people on Twitter asked for the film’s boycott using the hashtag Boycott Laal Singh Chaddha. Some Twitter users remembered Aamir’s “intolerance” statement and spread it on the microblogging site. The Collected Movie 12 crore net on the first day of release at the domestic box office.

Zayn said: “If you’ve ever been amused or touched by Aamir Khan… he’s made great movies, go see Laal Singh Chaddha and don’t let a hate campaign destroy something really beautiful.” Ira Khan shared the clip again on her Instagram Stories.

Previously, Aamir had addressed the boycott campaign, saying, as quoted by news agency ANI, “If I’ve hurt anyone in any way, I’m sorry. I don’t want to hurt anyone. If someone doesn’t go to the movies, I would respect sentiment. However, I would love for people to watch the film because it is our labor of love. A lot of people have worked hard on this film and I hope people like it.”

Speaking to India Today, Mona Singh, who played Aamir’s mother in the film, asked what the actor did to earn it. She said: “I was very sad. I mean what has Aamir Khan done to deserve this? He is a man who has always entertained us for the past 30 years. But I was confident that the boycotts would come once they started to see that the film resonates with every Indian.”

Laal Singh Chaddha, directed by Advait Chandan and adapted by actor Atul Kulkarni, is the official remake of the Tom Hanks starrer Hollywood classic Forrest Gump (1994). Apart from Hindi, the film was released in theaters on August 11 in Tamil and Telugu. The film also features Kareena Kapoor Khan, Mona Singh, Naga Chaitanya and Manav Vij in pivotal roles. Shah Rukh Khan and veteran actor Kamini Kaushal have guest appearances.
